Who am I?
I am the CEO and Founder of PPWD. I am also a non-executive Director for the British Bobsleigh and Skeleton Association and a senior officer within the Royal Air Force Air Cadets, in which I have been involved since I was 12-years old. I enjoyed a 17-year career in the Royal Air Force firstly as a Puma helicopter pilot, and secondly as an instructor and senior manager within officer training at the Royal Air Force College. Married to Jenny, we live in Northern Ireland, where we share our home with a rescue Saluki, Bonnie.
Why do I do what I do, what’s my purpose?
This must not happen again. A thought, like an atomic bomb, which went off in my head many years ago following a Puma helicopter accident resulting in the fatal injuries to the pilot and navigator. I did not know it at the time, but this has proven to be significant in honing my purpose, especially in recent years. My purpose is to undertake projects that are enjoyable, and provide meaning and satisfaction to the client, the PPWD team and for me. Projects in which everyone thrives and flourishes.
How do I do it?
More accurately what do I strive to do. Every day is an endeavour to live up to the PPWD values. To place people at the centre of all that I do. Then to employ deliberate practice in making a difference, in being effective. Mixed with a keen sense of curiosity to discovery, to learn, to find out what is really going on. Then through all of this; a sharp desire to learn, to evolve and to develop. What is it that I am going to know next week, next year? Why can’t I know that now?
